Chinese journalist gets harmed from Ukraininan drone attack
A Chinese journalist was wounded during a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Kursk Region, according to official statements. Lu Yuguang, a veteran war correspondent for a news agency, sustained head injuries when a drone struck while he and his team were conducting interviews with residents of the village of Korenevo, situated close to the Ukrainian border.
As stated by reports, the strike occurred while the crew was filming a segment outside a local residence. The journalist recounted that a first-person view (FPV) kamikaze drone flew directly into their vicinity. “We were recording a standup when an FPV drone flew by. And that was it,” Lu said, emphasizing he was clearly marked with press gear. “They did not care.”
Despite his injuries, Lu declined to be hospitalized, claiming the wounds were not severe and he still had important work to do. Footage released by Russian media showed Lu with a bandaged head. He praised the Russian medical team for treating him on-site, stating, “There was a lot of blood,” and that initial concerns suggested the injury might be more serious than it turned out to be.
Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein confirmed the incident, noting that the targeted area was in close proximity—just under 30 kilometers—from the Ukrainian border.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the drone strike as an intentional attack against journalists. “The targeted strike on a Chinese news crew shows Kiev’s intent to silence and effectively eliminate any media workers seeking objective coverage of the conflict,” she stated on Telegram.
Lu, 63, is an experienced military journalist who has covered numerous major events in Russia since the early 2000s, including the 2004 Beslan school siege. Since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, he has been reporting from the front lines, earning recognition for his in-depth coverage.
